Official Name : Republic of Turkey (Turkiye Cumhuriyeti).
Capital : Ankara
Area : 779,452 square kilometers (300,948 square miles)
Major Cities : Istanbul, İzmir, Bursa, Adana, Gaziantep, and Konya (in order of size).
Land :

Turkey borders the Black Sea and Georgia and Armenia to the northeast, Iran to the east, Iraq to the southeast, the Syrian Arab Republic and the Mediterranean to the south, the Aegean Sea to the west and Greece and Bulgaria to the northwest. Asia Minor (or Anatolia) accounts for 97 per cent of the country and forms a long, wide peninsula 1650km (1025 miles) from east to west and 650km (400 miles) from north to south. Two east-west mountain ranges, the Black Sea Mountains in the north and the Taurus in the south, enclose the central Anatolian plateau, but converge in a vast mountainous region in the far east of the country. It is here that the ancient Tigris and Euphrates rivers rise.

Climate : Dry and subtropical along the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts. Summers are long and warm, winters are mild. Continental climate in central and eastern Turkey, with hot summers and cold winters.

Passport : Passport must be valid for at least six months from date of arrival in Turkey
Visa : A visa is required from most nationals, with the exceptions of the following nationals.
  Passport and visa required. Visas can be obtained at Turkish border crossing points for tourist/business visits of up to 3 months or through a Turkish consular office in the U.S. Visa requires a completed application form and $20 fee (cash or money order only). Visa must be obtained in advance for longer stays and for study, research, or employment purposes.

Telephone : Country code: 90. Outgoing international code: 00. There is an extensive internal telephone network. To make a local, inter-city or international phone call from PTT telephone booths, which are found in all areas, telephone cards are used.
Mobile Phone : GSM 900 and 1800 band networks exist. Coverage is nationwide.
Internet : ADSL is available in big cities. Dial-Up service is available in all areas. Internet cafes can be found in most cities and towns.
Mail : Mail service is provided by state run company which can be recognized by " PTT " sign in yellow color. In addition, major private companies such as UPS, DHL etc. also provide services.
Press : In addition to major international papers, Turkish Daily Newspaper in English is also available in big cities.
